$1.5 Million Settlement with Cook County for Death at Stroger Hospital
Corboy & Demetrio obtained $1.5 million for the Estate of a 39-year-old man against Cook County for for failing to adequately treat the plaintiff at Stroger Hospital. The plaintiff went to a clinic at Stroger complaining of a sore throat, problems swallowing and difficulty breathing. He was subsequently transferred and seen in the emergency room where an x-ray of his neck revealed severe epiglottitis, an inflammation of the cartilage that covers the windpipe while swallowing. While waiting for an airway assessment by an otolaryngologist, the plaintiff suffered respiratory arrest and died several days later.
