Corboy & Demetrio Files Lawsuit in Rookery Building Sexual Assault
Corboy & Demetrio has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the victim of a sexual assault that took place in the lobby and elevator of the Rookery Building, 209 S. LaSalle Street on May 5, 2018.
The lawsuit, which was filed on May 16, 2018, in Cook County Circuit Court, names as Defendants, Titan Security, which provided security monitoring and surveillance to the building, and The John Buck Company, which provided security guards.
Attorneys Michael K. Demetrio and Andrew P. Stevens of Corboy & Demetrio are representing the victim, named only as Jane Doe in the lawsuit to protect her identity. She was entering the building when Robert Skipper, the alleged attacker, unlawfully entered the building and followed her into an elevator, unimpeded, where he violently and sexually attacked her.
“This young woman was entering a building that she thought was safe, especially with a guard on duty. This violent attack could have and should have been prevented,” Demetrio said.
“There were multiple safeguards in place at the Rookery designed to prevent violent attacks like this one from happening. The fact that the building’s security personnel allowed this criminal to bypass each of those safeguards can only be described as an utter failure,” Stevens said.
Robert Skipper, 29, has been charged with criminal sexual abuse, attempted criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint.
