Corboy & Demetrio obtains $2 Million Settlement on Behalf of Two College Students Subjected to Inappropriate Conduct by Chicago Podiatrist after being Groomed Through LinkedIn

Corboy & Demetrio Partner Daniel S. Kirschner secured a $2 million settlement on behalf of two college students who were subjected to inappropriate conduct by Asim Qureshi, a then-licensed podiatrist, during what was supposed to be a networking shadow day at Qureshi’s clinic, Michigan Avenue Podiatry (MAP) in Chicago.

In June 2024, Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 received unsolicited messages from Qureshi through the professional networking site, LinkedIn. Over several weeks of back-and-forth messaging, Qureshi is alleged to have groomed Doe 1 and Doe 2 by telling them that he could help them with internships, admission to podiatry school, and future employment opportunities. The grooming culminated with invitations to shadow him at MAP. During their respective shadow days, Qureshi is alleged to have isolated Doe 1 and Doe 2 in his private office away from staff and patients, where he engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior.

Doe 1 and Doe 2 reported their respective experiences to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Following an IDFPR investigation, Qureshi’s podiatry license was suspended.

According to the women’s attorney, Dan Kirschner, “Qureshi preyed upon the vulnerability of impressionable co-eds and, in so doing, violated their trust.”

Kirschner added, “With the loss of Qureshi’s license and with payment of this settlement, Jane 1 and Jane 2 are satisfied that their dignity is valued and justice has been served.”
