Corboy & Demetrio CFO Marcy Twardak Honored by Misericordia for Volunteer Work
Corboy & Demetrio CFO Marcy Twardak was presented with the Sister Rosemary Service Medallion by Misericordia, which provides housing and key services to more than 600 adults and children with intellectual and physical disabilities in Chicago, at the group’s annual gala at the Chicago Hilton on Oct. 15, 2022.
“Marcy is the ultimate ambassador of Misericordia,” said Ann O’Hara, Heart of Mercy Ball in introducing Marcy. “In her over 20 plus years, she has introduced countless friends to Misericordia,” O’Hara added, noting that Marcy had created and hosted Misericordia’s signature holiday and Spring shopping fundraisers.
Marcy also created a “First Sunday of the Month Club,” organizing 175 of her closest family, friends and Corboy & Demetrio co-workers, who volunteer to staff Misericordia’s popular Greenhouse Inn Sunday brunches, doing whatever work is needed. While joking that she was far more comfortable cleaning tables than accepting an award at a Misericordia event, Marcy said she would accept the award on behalf of her club’s volunteers.
“I’m accepting it because of the 175 people that are on my email list in the First Sunday of the Month Club that come regularly to clean the tables have no siblings, have no aunts or uncles and no family members that are at Misericordia. They come to the Greenhouse Inn to volunteer just because they’re good people.” (at 4:10 in video)
While Marcy first got involved because her daughter Katie needed community service hours, Marcy said her whole family soon started volunteering and found themselves annually at Misericordia’s Christmas brunches. Marcy said it was Sister Rosemary Connelly who inspires her to keep coming back.
“It was that white-haired woman with that beautiful smile who made us feel like, wow, she’s got something going on here and I want to be a part of it and I’m going to come back every year and keep doing it because she’s doing good work. She’s doing God’s work, and I want to be a part of it and so help me God, I’m going to continue to be a part of it,” Marcy said as she fought back tears.
Corboy & Demetrio has long supported Misericordia and was proud to serve as a Silver Sponsor to the 2022 Heart of Mercy Ball that was hosted by its Women’s Board.
