Corboy & Demetrio Obtains $4.25 Million for Passenger Injured in Calumet City Police Chase

Corboy & Demetrio has obtained a settlement of $4.25 million on behalf of a 17 year old when the vehicle he was a passenger in was chased by police at high rates of speed and crashed, leaving him seriously injured. .

The plaintiff, Ahmad Norwood, now 21 years old, was riding in a Jeep at 3:15p.m. on Nov. 3, 2017, in Calumet City when Calumet City police officers initiated a chase.  The Jeep was reported as a stolen car.

As the Jeep was chased into Dolton, it ran through a red light on Sibley Boulevard, and struck another vehicle, causing Mr. Norwood’s vehicle to become airborne and strike a traffic light pole, and land on its side. 

The lawsuit alleged the Defendant, the City of Calumet City, through its police officers, acted with an utter disregard for the safety of others, including Mr. Norwood, when it engaged in a high-speed chase that created “unwarranted danger.”

The settlement was obtained on May 16, 2022,

Ahmad Norwood v. City of Calumet City, 201L10991, filed on 10-10-18 in Cook Co. Circuit Court.
