Corboy & Demetrio Obtains $6 Million Settlement for Injured Machine Worker
Corboy & Demetrio has obtained a settlement of $6 million for a machine operator who was injured by a coil slitting machine and its slit coil packaging lines that were manufactured and designed by Chicago Sitter Company (CSC) while the operator was working at Metals USA, INC., in Northbrook, Illinois, on Oct. 4, 2016.
The negligence lawsuit was filed against CSC, alleging the machine and its slit packaging lines, which coils traveled through and was designed for Metals USA, “allowed for and permitted gaps between various coiling machines which allowed access by employees to unguarded and unprotected pinch point areas.”
The worker’s left leg was mangled in the machine system, resulting in a below the knee amputation. The worker also suffered injuries to his right leg. The $6 million settlement was for the policy limits of CSC.
The negligence lawsuit was filed in Cook Co. Circuit Court on October 3, 2018. The case was settled on May 19, 2022. The contribution action by CSC against Metals USA is set for trial on June 10, 2022.
