Service on Board of Directors by Attorneys and Staff
The firm's lawyers and staff serve on the boards of directors of numerous charitable organizations. Both Phil Corboy and Tom Demetrio are members of the Board of Directors for Chicago's Big Shoulders Fund, a charitable endeavor established by the late Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, which provides support to Catholic inner-city schools. And they both serve on the Board of Directors for the Center for Disability & Elder Law, an organization providing free civil legal services to the disabled and elderly in the Chicagoland area.
Partner Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr., is the immediate past President of the Board of Directors of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, a not-for-profit agency that provides free civil legal services to low income and elderly people in Chicago and suburban Cook County. He continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. Philip is a member of the Law Advisory Council and the Capital Development Committee of DePaul University College of Law. For many years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, one of the country's oldest organizations for people who are blind or visually impaired. From 2002 through 2005, he was Vice-Chairman of the Board. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of the President’s Club of DePaul University and the Board of the Illinois Variety Club's International Children's Charity.
Robert J. Bingle, the firm's managing partner, is on the Board of Directors for the Spinal Cord Injury Association, serves on the Executive Committee of the Fenwick High School Board of Trustees and is a member of Boston College Parents’ Leadership Council.
A member of the Law Alumni Board of Governors of Loyola University Chicago for many years, Susan Schwartz is currently President of the Board. She recently presented Frank R. Reynolds, Jr., the Francis J. Rooney / St. Thomas More Award at the School of Law Alumni Awards Luncheon.

Attorney Michelle Kohut currently serves as First Vice President of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois. She has served on the Board of Women Everywhere - Partners in Service Project, Inc., a community service project which seeks to open doors to women and children in need and to expose high school girls to challenging careers in the legal profession, for several years. She was recently elected President.
Partner David "Chip" Barry, Jr., is a member of the Board of Trustees for the William Guy Forbeck Pediatric Cancer Foundation, a pediatric cancer research foundation headquartered in South Carolina.
William Gibbs serves on the Advisory Board of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to honoring the lives and memories of police officers
Attorney Daniel Kirschner serves as the Vice-Chair of the Chicago Regional Community Leadership Board of the American Cancer Society and is President of the IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law Alumni Board of Directors. He was recently reappointed by Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn to the Illinois Carnival-Amusement Safety Board for a third term.
Our newest associate, Matthew Jenkins, didn’t waste any time joining in the "giving-back" spirit of the firm. Within a month of starting at Corboy & Demetrio, he became a member of the Young Professionals Board for the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) and a Board member of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Alumni Board, Young Alumni Committee. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of CDEL.
One of our nurse legal consultants, Catherine Dunnington, is a Board member of the Cancer Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization that offers free counseling and support services to cancer patients and their families.
The firm’s administrator, Marcy Twardak, serves on the Board of Directors for Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness, an organization that seeks to educate women and men about ovarian cancer, the number one disease for gynecologic cancer deaths. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago and the Mundelein College Alumni Association. Additionally, she is a member of the Mercy Home Leader Council, an organization that works year round to improve the educational opportunities for the young men and women of Mercy Home.
