$1.5 Million Settlement with Cook County for Death at Stroger Hospital

The estate of 39 year-old Tony Clark, represented by attorneys Margaret Power and Barry Chafetz, agreed to settle its claim against Cook County for $1.5 million for failing to adequately treat Clark at Stroger Hospital. Tony went to a clinic at Stroger Hospital of Cook County complaining of a sore throat, problems swallowing and difficulty breathing. He was subsequently transferred and seen in the emergency room of Stroger Hospital where an x-ray of his neck revealed severe epiglottitis, an inflammation of the cartilage that covers the windpipe while swallowing. While waiting for an airway assessment by an otolaryngologist, Clark suffered  respiratory arrest and died several days later.
