Corboy & Demetrio Attorney David Barry, Jr., Featured Speaker at Obstetric Medical Malpractice Seminar
David Barry, Jr., a trial attorney at the Chicago personal injury law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, was a featured speaker at the "3rd Obstetric Malpractice Seminar" on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Swissotel in Chicago, Illinois. During the program, Barry discussed the use of experts in obstetric medical malpractice cases in establishing the standard of care, causation and damages. The Seminar also included presentations on electronic discovery in medical malpractice lawsuits, the new ACOG standards on fetal heart rate monitoring, juror analysis and other topics of interest to trial attorneys.
An experienced and accomplished trial lawyer, Barry joined Corboy & Demetrio as a partner in 2002. He practices in the area of medical negligence, where he has focused his efforts since graduating from Northwestern University School of Law. Prior to his work as a plaintiff’s attorney, he represented hospitals and physicians for 21 years in medical malpractice cases. No matter which side he represents, Barry has earned the respect of the judiciary and trial bar for his ability, professionalism, good nature, and success.
Over the past six years, Barry has obtained over $145 million on behalf of his clients. In one of his recent record-setting cases, a jury awarded $22 million - the largest verdict ever in Illinois for the death of a woman - to the family of a mother who died after childbirth.
Barry is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is immediate past President of the Illinois Society of Trial Lawyers. He has served as President of the Trial Lawyers Club of Chicago and is a member of many local and national bar associations.
He frequently lectures on discovery tactics and trial strategy and has taught medical-legal seminars across the country.
