Michael K. Demetrio Elected to Board of Prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers

Corboy & Demetrio Partner Michael K. Demetrio was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the elite International Academy of Trial Lawyers, a highly selective group of the world’s most accomplished 500 lawyers from both sides of the Bar.

The Academy’s members comprise prosecutors and defense lawyers in criminal cases and plaintiffs and defense counsel in civil litigation.  Members are from more than 30 countries. Fellowship is by invitation only, and trial lawyers are invited to become Fellows only after an extremely careful vetting process.

“I am truly honored to be elected to the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Board,”  Michael K. Demetrio said.  “In all of my community service to bar organizations, which has included serving as the President of the Chicago Bar Association, this is among the achievements I am most proud of.”

Michael, a longtime member of IATL, was elected by the Academy’s Fellowship during the General Assembly of its Annual Meeting on March 21, 2021 to serve on the Board from 2021-2024. The Academy seeks out Fellows who have achieved a career of excellence as shown by their skills in trial and as demonstrated by their integrity and professionalism.  Members are often heavily involved in pro bono efforts and contribute generously of their time and resources to their local communities.

Michael’s contributions to his community are extensive.  In addition to serving as CBA President from 2003-2004, Michael serves as an appointed Adjunct Professor of Law at IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he has taught a course on Evidence for more than a dozen years. He is also a certified faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and a Certified Arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program and the American Arbitration Association.

Mike has served as Chairman of the Loyola Academy Scholarship Endowment Committee; as Member of the University of Notre Dame’s President’s Circle and Cavanaugh Council; as Member of the Chicago Bar Foundation and the CBA Lend-A-Hand Program; and as Big Shoulders Fund Board Member and Volunteer for its Lend-A-Shoulder Day.

As a member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers’ Board of Directors, Michael will play an active and crucial role in the governance of IATL.
