$18 Million Settlement for Death of Mother by Fallen High-Rise Window
Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr. and Robert Bingle reached a settlement of $18 million in the case of Ana Bertha Flores, who was killed by a window that fell from the CNA Plaza in Chicago, Illinois. Ana Flores, 38 at the time of her death, was walking and holding the hand of her three year old daughter, when a piece of glass fell from the 29th floor of the CNA Plaza hit and killed her. This incident resulted in a general outcry from the media and the public for more stringent inspections of high-rise windows in the downtown area. The City of Chicago issued citations and eventually CNA agreed to pay $250,000 in fines to the city and $18 million to the estate of Ana Flores.
