In November 2007, Daniel Kotin, a personal injury trial lawyer at the Chicago law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, tried a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the estate of former Chicago Blackhawk player Keith Magnuson, who died in a 2003 car crash. The St. Louis County, Missouri, trial concluded on November 30th with a jury verdict of $9.5 million - an award nearly 10 times larger than the previous record of $980,000 for a wrongful death verdict in that county. In addition to the exceptionally high jury award, the case was remarkable for a number of procedural issues, which Dan discusses in the article, "Practice Tips."
