Corboy & Demetrio Attorney, Michael Demetrio, Featured Speaker at Chicago Bar Association Seminar
February 2009Michael K. Demetrio, a partner at the law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, will be a featured speaker at the Chicago Bar Association’s seminar, Anatomy of an Aviation Case, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the CBA Building, 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, Illinois. During the program, Demetrio will discuss the evaluation, analysis, decision making and presentation skills used during an aviation case. Topics such as expert disqualification, discovery, effective use of technology, good faith settlements and motions in limine will also be included.
Demetrio has prosecuted numerous transportation cases across the United States. Among them is the crash of a US Airway’s jet where he settled the final case in that crash for $25.2 million, a commercial aviation record. Demetrio was the court-appointed Lead Counsel for the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the Multi-District Federal litigation stemming from the crash of American Eagle Flight #3379 near Morrisville, N.C. The Chief Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court appointed him plaintiffs’ lead counsel for the over 60 cases arising from the crash of an Amtrak train in Bourbonnais, Illinois. He also won a $6.6 million record-setting verdict in Federal District Court in Omaha, Nebraska in a case where a semi-tractor trailer truck crashed into the vehicle of a family on Interstate 80, killing one passenger and injuring the driver.
Michael Demetrio is an elected Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an invitation only appointment given to the top 500 trial attorneys in the United States. He is also a member of the Board of Managers for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. From 2003 to 2004, Demetrio served as President of the 22,000 members of the Chicago Bar Association. He is an appointed Adjunct Professor of Law at IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he teaches a course on Evidence. He is also a certified faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and a Certified Arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program and the American Arbitration Association. The author of numerous legal articles, Demetrio has also lectured extensively nationwide.
