National Law Journal Names Tom Demetrio One of Illinois' Best Attorneys
Paper Calls Him "Leading Trial Lawyer at Illinois' Most Prominent Plaintiffs' Firm"November 2, 1999
The National Law Journal, in its November 8, 1999 edition, cited name partner Thomas A. Demetrio as one of the ten best trial attorneys in Illinois. Demetrio, who has also been honored by the NLJ as among the top ten litigators in the country, is a past president of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
The National Law Journal's description of Demetrio reads as follows:
"Thomas A. Demetrio is the leading trial lawyer at Illinois' most prominent plaintiffs' law firm. The firm, established by the legendary litigator Philip Corboy, has won hundreds of million-dollar or multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Mr. Demetrio has won 12 verdicts of $1 million or more and close to 100 settlements in that range.
"His highest verdict, for $40 million, came in late 1998, in a personal injury case against three defendants. The verdict, which included no punitive damages, was one of the largest nationally for the year. He holds the record for the highest personal injury verdict ever affirmed by the Illinois Supreme Court--$22 million to one plaintiff injured in a traffic accident. He was also the lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the $108 million settlement two years ago over the 1994 air crash in Roselawn, Ind.
"Mr. Demetrio is scheduled to begin trial this month in another air disaster case, against The Boeing Co. and US Airways, over the 1994 crash of a jet outside of Pittsburgh."
