Schwartz joined Corboy & Demetrio following her graduation from Loyola, and she became a partner in 1994. Her practice centers on representing patients and their families in complex medical professional negligence personal injury and wrongful death actions.
Her efforts have resulted in a number of awards in excess of $1 million for her clients. She also secured $2.5 million for a homemaker permanently disabled after a failed intubation. In the case of a fifteen-month-old daughter of a family practice physician, she obtained $2 million for improper rehydration efforts, which caused a herniated brainstem and the girl's death. Schwartz obtained $5 million for the widow and children of a 28-year-old rabbi who died after jaw surgery when his breathing tube dislodged and attending nurses and doctors failed to properly respond.
Schwartz earned $4 million for the parents of a 13-day-old infant who was electrocuted when EKG leads on an apnea monitor were plugged into a wall outlet by a nurse. She obtained a $1.5 million settlement for a physician who was disfigured when her employer hospital supplied her with an excessive dose of steroids for an acute asthma attack. In a wrongful death action against a moonlighting emergency department physician, she secured an award of $1.7 million for the widow of a 73-year-old man who died of complications from an undiagnosed leaking aneurysm.
She received her undergraduate degree (B.S.F.S., 1977) from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Schwartz is also a member of the American, Illinois State, and Chicago Bar Associations, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
