At Corboy & Demetrio, we are experts dealing with the intricacies of brain damage cases and obtaining full compensation for clients' nursing care, therapy and disability. Our success has been exceptional. We have acquired more than $3 billion in settlements and verdicts, of which nearly 600 were in excess of $1 million.
Our expertise has also resulted in record-setting and outstanding verdicts and settlements for our clients. Below is a sample of the results we have achieved for our clients who suffered brain damage due to personal injury:
$40 Million Record-Setting Verdict in Car-Truck Collision In a record verdict in Cook County Circuit Court, a jury awarded $40 million to a Palos Hills, Illinois, woman and her husband. Our client, represented by Thomas Demetrio, suffered massive brain damage in a car-truck collision. The collision occurred when our client was driving on a ramp leading to the outbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway. At the same time, a 7,500-pound metal container loaded on a semi-tractor flatbed traveling in the opposite direction struck the overpass, causing the container to fall onto the expressway. A semi-tractor trailer swerved to avoid the container, struck it, crossed the median and hit the car being driven by our client. The family was awarded $34 million in compensatory damages to our client and a record $6 million for the husband’s loss of consortium claim. The verdict was paid in full.
$29.6 Million for Chicago Metra Crash Passenger A Cook County jury awarded a record $29.6 million to a passenger who suffered a traumatic brain injury when a Chicago Metra train crashed and derailed after entering a track crossover at 69 miles per hour (mph) instead of the posted 10 mph. Corboy & Demetrio personal injury lawyers, Thomas Demetrio and William Gibbs, represented the passenger in the two-week jury trial. The verdict is the largest in Illinois for an individual injured in a mass transit crash. The verdict was paid in full.
- Record Jury Verdict of Over $16 Million for Brain-Damaged Victim Struck by Limousine Obtained by Thomas A. Demetrio and Philip Harnett Corboy, Jr. A Cook County jury returned the highest compensatory award in the history of Illinois, at the time, when it awarded the plaintiff $16,721,015. Our 26 year-old client was in the middle of the street when he was struck by a limousine. Right before hitting our client, the limousine driver was seen weaving in and out of both north and southbound lanes. He had been at a night club for almost five hours prior to the accident. Our client suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries, in addition to his brain injury, which reduced his emotional and psychological level to that of a young child. The verdict was paid in full.
- $12 Million Verdict Obtained by Thomas A. Demetrio In the first ever eight figure verdict in Illinois history, Thomas A. Demetrio acquired a $12 million verdict on behalf of a young boy who received traumatic brain injuries when a semi-tractor trailer truck crossed the center line and struck a car in which he was riding. The brain injuries left the boy paralyzed and mentally compromised. The verdict was paid in full.
- $10 Million Settlement for Brain Injured 25 year-old Secured by Daniel Kirschner Corboy & Demetrio secured a $10 million settlement on behalf of the estate of a 25 year-old woman who was brain damaged when she was struck by a car while crossing Green Bay Road in Evanston after exiting a bus.
