Attorney Kotin Discusses Black Box and Sudden Acceleration with National Public Radio

March 2010

Wendy Kaufman, a reporter with National Public Radio, spoke recently with Corboy & Demetrio attorney Dan Kotin regarding event data recorders, or "black boxes," and sudden acceleration claims in her report, "Focus Shifts to 'Black Boxes' After Toyota Crashes."

Dan has had a number of personal injury cases involving information from black boxes. While it is widely known that the boxes are in airplanes, few realize that they are also in newer model cars.

Dan is presently representing a woman who was seriously injured when a cab she was riding in hit a tree. The driver claimed the cab, a Ford Crown Victoria, suddenly and inexplicably accelerated. In order to gain information on the speed, acceleration and braking just prior to the crash, Dan attempted to recover the black box from the cab. He discusses what happened in Wendy's report.
