Attorney Dan Kotin Featured Speaker on Deposition Strategy
December 9, 2009
Attorney Daniel Kotin, a partner and trial attorney at the law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, will be a featured speaker at the “Taking and Defending Depositions” seminar sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Program on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, Illinois. During this program, Kotin will discuss how to prepare a lay witness, control the deposition, deal with intimidating or abusive opposing counsel and handle evasive witnesses. The Seminar, produced for attorneys and providing 2.75 hours of continuing legal education credit, will provide practical techniques and effective strategies for taking depositions.
An experienced and accomplished trial lawyer, Kotin represents individuals and their families in personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including medical malpractice, product liability, and transportation cases. He is also a lead lawyer on mass tort cases arising out of fires, train derailments, airplane crashes and other disasters.
Dan has achieved numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts on behalf of clients and many are noteworthy for their amount and legal significance. Recently, he obtained a $29.6 million verdict on behalf of a woman who suffered brain injuries in the derailment of a Metra train. The verdict is the largest in Illinois for an individual injured in a mass transit crash. In 2008, he secured a $9.5 million verdict on behalf of the family of former Chicago Blackhawk hockey player and coach Keith Magnuson who was killed in a Toronto car crash. That verdict is the largest award for a personal injury or wrongful death case in the history of St. Louis County, Missouri.
Named one of the top 5% of all Illinois attorneys by the Leading Lawyers Network, Kotin has also achieved the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and has been designated an Illinois Super Lawyer. In 2002, he was named to the Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s list of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch.”
Outside of the courtroom, Dan is involved in multiple legal and civic organizations. He lectures at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he serves as a coach of the School's National Mock Trial Team and is a member of the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy where he teaches trial skills to lawyers at an annual program. Active in the Chicago Bar Association, he currently is a member of the Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Managers for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the prestigious Society of Trial Lawyers. Dan was recently appointed to the boards of two charitable organizations. He serves on the Board of Advisors for Catholic Charities and on the Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth Board of Directors.
A frequent speaker and writer on issues relating to trial practice and strategy, Dan has also published chapters and articles in legal books, periodicals and newspapers.
