Dan Kotin's Seminar Presentation Reported in Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
December 2008Dan Kotin's presentation at the "Taking and Defending Depositions in State and Federal Court" seminar sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association's Continuing Legal Education Program was featured in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
During the program, Kotin discussed how to prepare a lay witness, control the deposition, deal with intimidating or abusive opposing counsel and handle evasive witnesses. The Seminar, produced for attorneys, provided practical techniques and effective strategies for taking depositions.
An experienced and accomplished trial lawyer, Kotin represents individuals and their families in personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including medical malpractice, product liability, and transportation cases. He is also a lead lawyer on mass tort cases arising out of fires, train derailments, airplane crashes and other disasters.
In addition to his extensive trial practice in Illinois, Kotin has obtained multi-million jury verdicts in Wisconsin and Missouri. Most recently, he obtained a record-setting $9.5 million jury verdict on behalf of the family of former Chicago Blackhawk player and coach, Keith Magnuson, who was killed in a Toronto car crash. The verdict was the largest awarded for a personal injury or wrongful death case in the history of St. Louis County, Missouri.
Named one of the top 5% of all Illinois attorneys by the Leading Lawyers Network, Kotin has also achieved the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and has been designated an Illinois Super Lawyer. In 2002, he was named to the Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s list of "40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch."
Kotin lectures at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he serves as a coach of the School's National Mock Trial Team and is a member of the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy where he teaches trial skills to lawyers at an annual program. Active in the Chicago Bar Association, he currently is a member of the Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Managers for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
A frequent speaker and writer on issues relating to trial practice and strategy, Mr. Kotin has also published chapters and articles in legal books, periodicals and newspapers.
